What books are you reading in 2013?

It's 2013 and there's a whole year of reading ahead. This year I plan to set aside more time for reading. Too often I find myself sitting on the sofa watching crap on the telly when I could be engrossed in a good book instead. Well, not anymore. No longer will I watch that episode of Only Fools and Horses I've seen 30 times before. No longer will I flick through the channels until my thumb hurts. Nope, I'm going to hit the off button and read instead.

But what to read? I've already mentioned the books I got for Christmas. They should keep me going for a while but won't last forever. So what next? I'm an SF geek and i09 have quite helpfully put an article together listing books due out in 2013. It's quite a list but two caught my eye.

The first is A Memory of Light by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. This is the last installment in The Wheel of Time series which Brandon Sanderson took over when Robert Jordan passed away. Oh my,  I can't believe this series is finally coming to an end. It's just crazy to think how long it's been part of my life. I think I was fourteen when I first read The Eye of the World. In the time this series has been going I've finished school, graduated from university, trained as a lecturer, travelled the world and published three books. In a way I'll be sad when this series is over. In another way I'll be relieved.

My shelves are full of Tolkien books I've never read. Unfinished Tales. The Shaping of Middle Earth. The Tales of Hurin. I got half way through The Silmarillion before I gave up. Now there's another one coming out. The problem is, I know I'll buy it because I have to own all JRR's books. But I might actually read this one as it's about King Arthur, which I love and is a poem so shouldn't be as heavy-going. I hope.

What books are you looking forward to in 2013?

  2. Nice touch. I'm still finishing last year's books... Do you add your small stones here?
I've been writing my stones on my blogspot blog.

  3. You couldn't finish the Simarillion? Say it isn't so! :( But if you couldn't finish that, Unfinished Tales and much of the others are going to be even worse.

Anyway, I'm commenting because I'm in the middle of reading Everwinter. I'm enjoying it so far and I'll let you know what I think when I'm done.
